Easter is a Christian holiday beginning with the resurrection of Jesus from the dead on the 3rd day of his burial. The heavy stone blocking his burial site was rolled away and He was gone! Never to be found.
And of course, don’t forget the bunny who brings eggs to the kids to find Easter morning.. a tradition beginning in Germany in 1682.
It reminds me more of Santa bringing toys Christmas Eve. Some consider it a pagan festival that was added to Easter to encourage native people to join the Christians. The natives worshiped the bunny and I think the Christians just wanted the land… have no idea why the bunnies were hauling around eggs.

And books are always a great gift for any holiday , birthday, special occasion or any day. Reading is a great knowledge increaser. Get lost in one and travel wherever you please.
Every year adults in the family scramble to find just the right Easter basket. There are all kinds available. Will it be the sports Easter basket for $20 or the Spiderman basket? When did Easter gifts become so expensive? The most popular are usually the most expensive.
The average family has 2.4 children and Easter gifts can break a budget. Here are some ideas that won’t break the bank but leave many memories in future years.
Easter Egg Decorating Contest
For most kids, Easter is not Easter without decorating eggs. This year make it a family contest.. start a tradition that involves the whole family. Throw an annual Easter egg decorating contest.
Categories so everyone gets a chance to win
1 .funniest egg,
2. most original egg,
3. scariest egg,
4. celebrity egg,
Display them on the kitchen table. Maybe aunts and uncles or grandparents can choose the winners
- Follow the Ribbon
This is a simple tradition that doesn’t take much preparation. All you will need to do is buy some narrow cheap ribbon. Choose a different color for each member of the family ( about 15 to 25 yards per person) depending on how crazy you want this to be). I would be buying as little as possible.( Again, I’m a night person and like my morning on the calmer side.) Once the kids are in bed, tie a ribbon to each of their hidden baskets and wind them in and out of the furniture and the other ribbons until you can’t see where they began. Bring the ends to one central location (perhaps the kitchen table) as a place where your family can begin the entangled maze to find their baskets. Before you know it, everyone will be tangled in ribbons and laughs. If you are an energetic morning person, good, try this, looks fun but I would be sitting on the sidelines watching with my cup of coffee.
- The Big People Egg Hunt
On Easter Sunday, gather the adults together and have them each hide one or more eggs somewhere on themselves. Ya, sure don’t see this happening! It might be in Grandma’s apron pocket, Uncle John’s boots, behind Dad’s glasses, or under Grandpa’s hat. This hunt isn’t just for the little ones, it involves everyone and is a wonderful way to connect the generations. I have never tried this with my kids .Mine would just tickle or pinch and someone would end up crying or complaining. You know the personalities the best. You decide.
- Personalize Letter from the Easter Bunny! If your kids already have cell phones, a text from the Bunny would work just as well. The technology is in speed mode… I see very young kids with phones of their own.
What child does not get excited about getting mail? How about a personalized letter to your child from the Easter Bunny. This letter will be mailed directly to your child and talk about how mom and dad have told the Easter bunny that he/she has been good. What an exciting memory for your child! Maybe you could pull this off with the very young but the texting would be better if older. The kids are just too knowledgeable to pull this off.
Here’s to a wonderful Easter!
Of course, after the kids have hunted for Easter Bunny gifts, Mom may like some beautiful jewelry to show off at church. The birthstone for April is the diamond, world’s most popular gem.
